Windows-98 Utilities

Utilities are the system programs which are provided with operating system. It helps to keep computer running fastly and to manage disk spaces. Some utilities of Window-98 are as given below. All the utilities in Windows-98 could find under Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools.

1. Disk Cleanup

Disk cleanup is a system utility which are mainly used to remove unnecessary files creating by windows or by user, and creates disk space so that this space could be used by some other programs. To remove unneeded files follow these steps:-

Select Disk Cleanup from Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools.
From the appeared screen select the drive which needed to cleanup.
Check the items like Temporary Internet files, Recycle Bin, Temporary files which contains unneeded files.
Click OK button.

2. Disk Defragmenter

Disk defragmenter is a system utility which is used to rearrange files and unused disk space so that programs can run faster. To Defrag the unused disk space and files follow these steps:-

Select Disk Defragmenter from Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools.
From the appeared window select the drive which need to defrag. Click OK button.
Press Show Detail to see the detail of defragging process.

3. Scan Disk

Scan Disk is a system Utility which is used to check the disk for logical and physical errors. If Scan Disk found any problem in the disk then it automatically repairs the damage area of the disk. To Scan the disk for errors follow these steps:-

Select Scan Disk from Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools.
The window will appear as show besides. Select the drive which need to scan.
If want to perform scan of Disk Surface as well as files and folders present in the disk select the Thorough option, otherwise select Standard option
Click on Start button to start the scanning of the disk.

During scanning if Scan Disk founds any problem or damaged area then it automatically fix the problem or say it automatically repairs the damaged area.
